Valentinstag/Valentine's day

Normalerweise backe ich etwas am Valentinstag und überrasche Ryan damit - doch dieses Jahr waren wir den ganzen Tag auf einer Hochzeit, daher fiel die Bäckerei aus.

Dafür habe ich uns zwei Turteltauben gehäkelt! :-)

Usually I bake something as a surprise for Ryan on Valentine's day but this year we spent the whole day at a wedding so no baking at all.
But I crocheted us two lovebirds! :-)

Einen romantischen Tanz haben wir uns auf der Hochzeit gegönnt!

We treated ourselves to a romantic dance at the wedding!

Aber der Mann der meine nahezu ungeteilte

Aufmerksamkeit erhielt war natürlich dieser :-)

But the man who got my nearly undivided

attention was of course this one :-)

Mein Blog ist übrigens genau heute ein Jahr alt!

By the way my blog is exactly today one year old!

Haare ab!/Hair's off!

Seit Oktober will ich meine Haare kurz schneiden, aber Ryan maulte jedesmal bei dem Gedanken. Wie auch immer seit heute sind sie wirklich ab - und Ryan brauchte nichtmal Wiederbelebungs-Versuche! :-)

Ich hatte seit ungefähr 19 Jahren keine wirklich kurzen Haare mehr...

Since October I wanted to cut my hair short but Ryan always moaned just at the thought of it. However today they did come off - and Ryan didn't even need resuscitation! :-)

I haven't had proper short hair for about 19 years...

Babykäfer Rassel/Babybug rattle

Meine Freundin Pepe hat letzte Woche einen entzückenden Sohn bekommen - Bentley ist 9 Tage alt und heute durften wir ihn kennen lernen!

My friend Pepe had an adorable baby boy last week - Bentley is 9 days old and today we had the honour of meeting him!

Mit leeren Händen sind wir natürlich nicht angetreten - eine Amigurumi Babykäfer Rassel mit spannendenden Knister-Flügel für Bentley!

Of course we didn't show up empty handed - an Amigurumi Babybug rattle with fascinating crinkle wings for Bentley!

Raymond war ganz verliebt in die Rassel und wollte sie gar nicht mehr hergeben - ja ich habe verstanden Herr Sohnemann, ich werde demnächst noch eine machen :-)

Raymond fell in love with the rattle and hardly parted with it - yes I understood my son I will soon make another one :-)

Trage-Poncho/Carry poncho

Tragejacken sind teuer!

Relativ schnell und ganz ohne Nähen (der Poncho alleine ohne Behübschung) war dieser Trage-Poncho gezaubert!

Carry coats are expensive!

Quite quickly and completely without sewing (just the poncho without the pretty stuff) this carry poncho was done!

Eine schöne Geschichte/A beautiful story

Ich möchte euch gerne ein traurige Geschichte mit wunderschönem Ende erzählen!

Noch bevor sie ihre 4 Kinder hatte gebar Ryan's Oma ein Baby, welches traurigerweise starb. Das kleine Mädchen - Patricia - kam mit einer Deformierung am Kopf zur Welt, man dachte es sei eine Zyste und hat gleich operiert - doch es war das heraustretende Gehirn und sie starb noch am Operationstisch . Ryan's Oma wurde unter schweren Medikamenten 2 Tage lang still gestellt und so kam es, dass der Opa damals das kleine Mädchen alleine begrub. Diese traurige Geschichte ereignete sich vor 58 Jahren - zu einer Zeit als der Opa mit dem Militär in Hereford in Cornwall stationiert war. Damals konnten sie sich keinen Grabstein leisten und man fand das Grab nicht mehr - es war für immer verloren. Die Oma hatte das Grab nie gesehen.

Ryan's Cousine Faye zog vor ein paar Monaten nach Hereford und nahm sich heimlich vor das Grab zu finden. Und schaffte dies!

Vor ein paar Tagen überraschte sie ihre Grosseltern damit. 58 Jahre später also fahren sie in der kommenden Woche runter nach Cornwall, um das Grab zu besuchen begleitet von ihren 4 Kindern.

Ich bin noch immer sehr bewegt von dieser Geschichte.

I want to tell you a sad story with a beautiful ending.

Before they had their 4 children, Ryan's nan and grandad had another baby who sadly died. It was a little girl - Patricia - who was born with a big lump on her head. The doctor first thought it's a cyst and operated her straight away but it turned out it was the elapsing brain and she died there on the table. Ryan's nan was put under a lot of medication and was knocked out for 2 days so grandad had to bury the little girl alone. That all happened 58 years ago in Hereford in Cornwall as he was stationed there with the RAF but they couldn't afford a gravestone or tomb and the next day he couldn't find the grave anymore so it was lost forever and nan never got to see it.

A few months back Ryans cousin Faye moved to Hereford and secretly set herself a mission - to find the grave. And she found it!

A few days ago she surprised her grandparents with this and in the upcoming week they will finally go down there to visit the grave accompanied by their 4 children.

I am still very moved by this beautiful but sad story.

Stillkleid/Nursing dress

Ich bin auf der Suche nach einem Stillkleid, um zu einer Hochzeit zu gehen... Hat wer von euch tollen Näherinnen eines im Fundus zu verkaufen? So ganz zufällig in meiner Grösse? :-)

I am looking for a breastfeeding/nursing dress to go to a wedding... Does one of you gifted sewing queens have one lying around to buy for me? Coincidentally in my size? :-)

Unglaublich.../Unbelievable...

... aber wahr! Der Zwergenkönig ist heute schon 6 Monate alt!

... but true! The king of dwarves is already 6 months old today!

Engelhaft/Angelic

Weil meine Schwiegermutter in letzter Zeit immer wieder viel Verständnis für mein eigenes Vorhaben wie ich mein Kind erziehen will zeigte - kein Kinderwagen und Beikostfragen im konkreten Fall - habe ich ihr einen kleinen Engel gehäkelt - als Dankeschön. Sie mag Engel nämlich ganz besonders gerne. Immerhin leben wir ja zusammen und ich bin sehr froh gute Aussprachen mit ihr führen zu können.

Because my mother-in-law showed a lot of understanding recently about my own ways how I want to bring up my child - no pushchair and about weaning in this case - I made her a little angel - as a thank you. She just loves angels. By all means we live together so I'm really glad that we can always talk to each other.

Und gestern Abend entstand ein ganz schneller Matryoshka-Appliqué.

And last night I made a quick Matryoshka appliqué.

In den letzten paar Tagen haben meine Fingerchen wie emsige Bienen die Häkelnadel geschwungen - und Junior ist wie ein Kätzchen ständig dem Wollknäuel hinterher :-)
